Looking and Seeing

Fantasy books often use the idea that supernatural or magical things existing in our world and the average mortal can not see them because they are not expecting to. People look right past things that are incongruent. This morning, as I opened my knife drawer I saw ants which was weird as I've never had ants there before. To me the knives looked funny and there was a small one that seemed out of place.  It took a good 5 seconds of looking for my brain to SEE the dead gecko in between my knives. I screamed.
That got me thinking about other things I have looked at but it took time to see them.

The trees with skirts:  Anita first pointed these out to me.  We had been here 6 weeks.  Trees bigger than a grown man can wrap his arms around are thought to contain spirits, are sacred and are wrapped with cloth. Here is 1 across the street from our house:
Another at Potato Head:
All temples have wonderful statuary.  It similarly took us a while to see how special these 2 were.
