Hot day in Hoi An

Vietnam is in the Northern hemisphere which means as we head South, towards the equator, Hanoi was warm, Hue hot, and Hoi An very hot.  We left early to see My Son Sanctuary before the real heat of the day.  These temples were built earlier than Angkor Wat by the Champa people.  Like Angkor, it was lost the the jungle, until it was rediscovered by the French who removes the heads from the statues, removed anything of value (including the king's body) and shipped the lot to The Louvre.  Later, American B52s bombed the site.  Despite all this it is a beautiful site.  After lunch and a rest, we went to the Bamboo Circus.  These artists were amazingly skillful and the bamboo apparatus' were inventive and unique.  A good day.

3 Gen of Plevyak Men....and me.

We had a morning flight from the Singapore airport to Chiang Mai.  taking full advantage of the full service nature of our hotel, we asked them to picked us up at the airport, have lunch waiting, and provide a car and driver to show us some of the temples in the old town.  It was very efficient and luxurious - only the best when traveling with Gene!  For dinner we enjoyed a cultural performance.  The following day, we visited Doi Suthep and a Hmong village.  The afternoon was set aside for homework and pool lounging.
